The Magic of Macy's

So this past weekend as I recapped my weekend in Vegas by looking at a gazillion pictures taken by bloggers who are way more professional than me.. because they carry essentials like a camera...I noticed something in a picture that I missed in the moment...which I will share with you in a second, but first let me set the stage.

One of the many activities we got to do at the Latina Lifestyle Conference was take a tour of the Macy's at the Fashion Show Mall in Vegas. As a former Macy's employee taking a tour of place that I use to crawl out of bed for at 7am after a night of clubbing studying hard for school only to deal with 34th street madness and the most question asking pleasant customers ever...sent me straight into survival mode where I kept my eyes on all emergency exits in case someone found out I could answer what color and silhouette bests fits your body,  the difference between Macy Exclusive Labels and regular designer labels, where the restroom is, and the real rewards of a Macy's card (which FYI...is that moment you realize that your customer appreciation coupon combined with Wednesday reductions of merchandise they need to clear for the on coming week, plus a 10% percent off promo they are having..... means you get something that is still in season and designer for 5 bucks or less). Needless to  say the tour at Macy's was not my favorite part of the conference...and perhaps I'm just biased... but I'm also willing to bet you wouldn't like taking a tour of a store in which you walk paralyzed in fear someone will tap you on the shoulder and ask if you can help them decide which of these 20 version exact same style different ...designer jeans looks best on them.

On a side note, I want you to know... my time at Macy's was really one of  the best periods of my life...for 1. I got discounts and walked around looking like a fashionista ,even though I was a po' college student ( some people decide to strip I decided to retail). and 2. I made some of my best friends working at Macy's...not for nothing Macy's knows how to select quality people.

Anyways back to the point of this story, I was caught up on hating my non-hourly + commission time at Macy's that I didn't stop and people watch and remind myself of the Magic of Macy's ( see I still have memorized every phrase and experience I'm supposed to give customers). And this is what I missed in the moment and that is: the role a perfect fitting dress can play in people's lives. In a corner of a picture..that I can't find now, there was this woman walking out of the dressing room and she had this proud smile on her face....like don't I look like a hawt tranny right now? Well it so happens that before we stepped into Macy's I remember seeing this woman shoulders hunched.... and I remember saying "that lady looks like she needs a hug..too bad I'm not a touchy feely person." Truthfully all she needed was the right black dress.

Sometimes in life we get bogged down by our outside environment... and as materialistic as this sounds sometimes what we wear can make us feel worse about ourselves and our current fluffy situation. There is something to be said about that dress that makes you look 10lbs skankier and its effect on your sudden energy to go to the gym and keep the good work up.

To be honest again.. the tour of Macy's was not my favorite part of my Vegas extravaganza ( I know I keep saying it..but I need you to understand my traumatic experience)...but that's perhaps because the staff focused on the hottest purses and shoes...when may be they needed to focus on how those shoes put that bounce back into someones step and how that dress would make me look 100lbs lighter ( Hey if Macy's can make Santa appear.. they can work there magic on this fluffster)..well because shouldn't it always be about me?

Reminiscing on College and Macy's Memories and still practicing her Beauty Queen wave I bid you goodnight and ask: What is your favorite "magic" article of clothing that turns that frown upside down?

Cynthia
